Guardian Homes
What is it?
Here at Dessie's Doodles we are dedicated to ensuring that all of our dogs in our program get love and attention, and live in a home. We do not use kennels! In order to make this possible we keep the number of dogs in our program small and utilize guardian homes. A guardian home offers a family for a puppy chosen to improve our breeding program.
- 1st litter after all genetic testing is completed at minimum of 2 years of age
- Approximately 3-4 litters
- Spayed/nuetered by 6 years old maximim
Who can participate?
- Live within 2 hour of Connersville,IN
- Own your own home
- Willing to have the dog trained
- Able to allow us access to the dog as needed for breeding, photos, etc.
Benefits
- Pick of the litter at no upfront cost to you
- We cover all breeding costs.
- We cover all genetic testing.
- We cover the cost of OFA testing for hips, elbows, patella, eyes, heart, and dentition.
- We cover the cost of spay/nueter at the end of the contract
- We work with you on proper training and grooming of your dog
- After being spayed we sign over all rights to you
- Compensation for additional titles placed on the dog beyond CGC and Therapy Dog certifications.
Expectations
- Must complete a minimum of basic obedience class
- Test for canine good citizenship & therapy dog at 1 year of age. We offer prep work classes with us here at Dessie's Doodles for these tests, however testing must be completed by a certified AKC 3rd party trainer.
- Must socialize the puppy/dog
- Properly maintain and groom the dog
- Maintain communcation including sending photos and updates
- Keep vaccinations up to date
- Keep heartworm/flea and tick medicine up to date
- Have the puppy/dog covered by pet insurance
- Feed the diet we recommend
- Be able to allow us to have the dog when needed
- Allow us to visit the dog
